Rev. John Henry

Father John came to St. Paul’s-Carlinville and St. Peter’s-Chesterfield on December 1, 2010 (following his ordination to the Deaconate on November 30, 2010 at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul-Springfield) as Assisting Deacon to Fr. John Bettmann.  Upon Fr. Bettmann’s retirement on January 1, 2011, Fr. John became the Deacon Administrator of both parishes.  He became Rector of both parishes following his ordination to the Sacred Order of Priests by the Right Reverend Daniel H. Martins on June 29, 2011.  He graduated from Nashotah House Episcopal Theological Seminary in Mary 2010 with an MDiv Degree.

Father John serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Carlinville Clergy Fellowship.  He is currently the Chairman of the Commission on Ministry for the Diocese of Springfield.  He worked for several years as the Spiritual Director of the Middler Session of the Episcopal Church Camp and continues to serve on its board.

Father John and his late wife Sandy (nee Wesley) are the parents of 4 grown daughters---Johanna, Jennie, Fiona, and Rebecca---and the grandparents of 13 children---Kayley, Michael, Sarah, Ashley, Lexie, Rianna, Dominic, Isaac, Peyton, Ethan, Hannah, Danica, and Cadence.  Michael and Lexie live with him.

Before entering the ordained ministry, Father John was an educator.  He taught primary children for 25 years in Decatur, Illinois, and then served as Principal of Niantic-Harristown Junior/Senior High School for 6 years.

Father John expects to retire from active ministry on July 1, 2021.
